Oude Houtlei

Originally a canal (1898-1899), now a street. In Ghent, canals are often referred to as Lei, named after the Leie. The Houtlei was an artificial canal that was dug as the western defensive boundary of the city. The fortress walls can still partly be found in the city. Many monastery buildings appeared along this canal.
